In this post we’ll look at the steps involved for setting up Google Analytics on your Magento 2 storefront. Here they are, in a nutshell.
1) First, you’ll need to create a Gmail account, if you don’t have any one already.
2) Next go to https://www.google.com/analytics/, expand the “Sign in” menu at the top and click “Analytics”.
3) Click “Sign up”. When you do that, you’ll need to setup following items (as shown in the screenshot below).
i. What would you like to track?
ii. Account Name
iii. Website Name
iv. Website URL
v. Industry Category
vi. Reporting Time Zone
vii. Data Sharing Settings
4) After completing the above steps click the “Get Tracking ID” button.
5) Next, agree to the Google Analytics Terms of Service Agreement (as shown below).
6) Now, copy the “Global Site Tag” script found under Tracking Info→Website Tracking.
7) Paste this script under the admin→content→configuration→(required) theme→HTML head → Scripts and Style Sheets.
8) You can verify the head script by viewing the source of the required (site) page.
And that’s it. Feel free to comment or reach out if you have any questions. If you need any help with Magento SEO (like setting up Google Analytics on Magento 2), replatforming to Magento, or upgrading from Magento 1 to Magento 2, please get in touch with us.
