The client is a global animal health company and the world's largest producer of medicine and vaccinations for pets and livestock. A subsidiary of one of the world's largest drug maker, the client operates in 70 countries worldwide and has revenues in excess of 5 billion USD.

THE PROBLEM AND THE FOLIO3 SOLUTION

As part of its strategy to bring innovation to the animal health industry, the client wanted to create a mobile solution that would help digitize animal healthcare procedures and processes at livestock farms, particularly pig farms and feed yards; enabling pig farm owners and managers to better manage their farms and simplify the daily activities associated with swine healthcare.

Since record keeping for pig care was done on paper based systems, owners of large pig farms often faced difficulty in managing the multitude of healthcare procedures related to their stock, especially activities related to stock mortality, diseases and the application of appropriate medication to diseased animals. The client wanted to develop a mobile solution that would digitize and simplify these processes, enabling pig farm owners and caregivers to track and manage these activities from their smartphone or tablet. The company chose Folio3 as its mobility partner to help them develop this solution.

Working in collaboration with the client, Folio3 designed and developed a one of kind, multi-platform mobile solution, that includes a cross platform (for iOS and Android) mobile app for farm managers and caregivers, and a backend web based dashboard and reporting platform for farm owners and system administrators.

The app allows caregivers to track and record swine health data and the activities and tasks related to managing swine health in real time, while the web application provides farm owners and production managers with instant updates and analytical reports about the activities performed by their staff, and the back end. Key features of solution include:

Provide caregivers with a simple and intuitive system to record swine healthcare data directly from the field; such as signs of illness/symptoms, treatment dosage, administration and outcomes, water consumption, number of sick pigs and mortality rates

Caregivers can record data in real-time, which is immediately uploaded and available to production managers, veterinarians and all other stakeholders (via the web dashboard), for real-time decision making

Helps veterinarians and caregivers identify and assess disease outbreaks quickly, resulting in timely treatment and better treatment outcomes

Reporting features that enable veterinarians to quickly compare and contrast treatment outcomes along with signs of illness, to access the effectiveness of the medication provided such as antibiotics and anti-infectives

Provides an efficient tracking system for medication use, by enabling caregivers to select the injectable or water soluble medication products to use, along with their approved dosages, side effects, routes of administration and withdrawal times.

Ability to create, enforce and track applied treatment protocols across the farm

Thanks to Folio3’s efforts, the client was able to develop a one of kind, mobile based animal healthcare solution for the swine and pork industry. The client was so impressed with the quality of the solution delivered that it is actively marketing the solution to its clients. The project is currently on-going, with the Folio3 team providing maintenance and support for the application.
